ALBAIK's 11th annual house hero program kicks off with over 550 house heroes enrolled and over 6,000 students participated in the program since its launch in 2002
Over 550 youth have been signed up to take part in the annual ‘With ALBAIK You Are the House Hero’ summer program, which kicked off June 16, 2012. In its 11th year the ‘With ALBAIK You Are the House Hero’ is a major summer program hosted for the benefit of the youth; aiming to teach them useful practical skills that complement their academic education and enhance confidence and self esteem in a way that will benefit them both at home and in their future careers.
The boys’ program is being hosted at the Vocational and Training Institute in Jeddah and the Technical College in Makkah; while the girls’ program is being held in cooperation with the Al Shaqaeq Charity Organization in Jeddah, at their Dunya Banat Center.
The boys’ program consists of five main training sessions: Car Mechanics (understanding various parts of the car and the tools required as well as learning how to do tire, oil and spark plug changes), Electricity (understanding electrical wiring and safety, components of electrical circuits, electric connections and power, as well as voltage distribution methods), Computer Repair (understanding computer installation, dismantling and maintenance), Home Painting and Plumbing (understanding types of paints and tools used for home painting, paint/color mixing, plumbing basics, fixing water leaks, and changing faucets and pipes), Safety and Prevention (First Aid training in cooperation with the Red Crescent Society and Fire Safety and Prevention training in cooperation with the Civil Defense).
The girls’ program, includes the following training sessions: Basics in Home Skills (understanding basics in plumbing and electricity, key home repairs and basics in homecare), Arts and Decoration (understanding basics in painting and home decoration skills), Grooming and Health Care (exercise and nutrition, grooming and beauty tips), Cooking and Food Safety (introduction to basic cooking skills, understanding nutritional value, basic food safety and kitchen hygiene) and Safety and Prevention (First Aid and Fire Safety and Prevention training).
Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded House Hero certificates as well as certificates from the Red Crescent Society and the Civil Defense for the safety and prevention program.
Launched in 2002, the ‘With ALBAIK you are the House Hero’ summer training program has witnessed the participation of more than 6,000 boys ages 12-18 and girls ages 12– 16. The objective of the program is to support social development in the Kingdom by giving youth the opportunity to learn how to perform simple household tasks.
