Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) Hadith: “The whole earth has been made a mosque for us”. ALBAIK kicks off its latest environmental awareness / anti-littering message “Let’s Care For Our Country As We Care For Our Mosques” in collaboration with WAMY volunteers and 10 Jeddah mosques to further build on the anti-littering message during Ramadan and Eid

In cooperation with the Youth Teams at the World Assembly of Muslim Youth and with the support of 10 mosques in Jeddah, the annual anti-littering and environmental awareness campaign launched by ALBAIK Food Systems kicked off during the last 10 days of Ramadan.   Under the theme “Let’s Care For Our Country As We Care For Our Mosques” the campaign focuses on the Hadith of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) “The whole earth has been made a mosque for us” calling on people to care for their surroundings and public areas as they care for the cleanliness and upkeep of the mosque.

“The environment is a legacy for generations to come and how we treat and care for it is how we’ll leave it behind.  It’s our duty to create the necessary awareness and cooperate with the official entities in caring for our environment and communities,” stated Eng. Rami Abu Ghazaleh, CEO ALBAIK Food Systems.

“This year our anti‑littering and environmental awareness campaign message focuses on how day to day actions greatly impact our environment and public areas; especially inside the mosques people are diligent in its cleanliness and upkeep however once outside some peoples actions differ and they litter in the street, from their cars, on the beach and at the park.  Such actions not only are unseemly and reflect a different attitude and behavior from when inside the mosque but it also showcases how children mimic the actions of adults,” he ended.

The campaign activation during Ramadan and Eid witnesses the participation of over 50 volunteers on site at the designated mosques distributing water bottles featuring the campaign message to those attending Isha and Taraweeh prayers.  Great support has been witnessed by the Imams with their calling on the people after prayer to care for their environment and not litter in the streets and public areas; to keep the city clean.  Response from the campaign and messaging has been widely received with people exiting the mosques and taking part in cleaning up its surrounding areas.  The volunteers have been distributing gloves and trash bags to those interested in taking part alongside the water bottles.

“This is the third year the Youth Teams at WAMY participated in the anti-littering awareness campaign with ALBAIK.  Each year the message further develops to bring the community closer in keeping their city clean and the WAMY volunteer groups are on the ground at various locations raising the awareness and messaging,” stated Mostafa Kherd, head of the volunteer teams at WAMY.

“The volunteer teams implement a number of projects throughout the year for the benefit of the community to further build on the education, community support and care.  When projects are launched and implemented by volunteers within the community maximum impact is achieved because they are part of its development as was apparent during the initial anti-littering campaign worked on with ALBAIK in 2009 and 2010,” he continued.

The campaign is part of a series of anti-littering and environmental awareness activation programs initiated by ALBAIK; featuring the Ramadan CSR ad broadcast on TV showcasing our day-to-day actions and their impact on the environment from littering from the car, on the beach, walking out of the mosque, after a picnic and how children could mimic grown up actions. The activation program will continue throughout the year with key initiatives that include the school awareness program Feena Khair, public messages and on the ground activities targeting kids and youth.
